Lindsey Vonn Wins Super G in Italy Today, Takes Overall Points Lead!

Lindsey Vonn won the Super G in Cortina, Italy today.  Yesterday, she won the Downhill in Cortina breaking the record for the most woman’s downhill wins in history at 37.

Lindsey Vonn now leads the overall points race by 45 points over Laura Gut, who got 5th today and 3rd yesterday.  The highest honor is ski racing is to win the overall title and Lindsey is on track to do it for the 3rd time in her career.

“This place is incredibly special for me.  I’ve broken quite a few records here now. I enjoy the time here. I’m always confident and happy when I’m in the starting gate and I think that shows in my skiing. … I wish we could race every weekend here.” – Linsdey Vonn, today

Lindsey has now won 8 World Cup races this year bringing her to 75 World Cup wins overall, which is the woman’s record (next closest woman has 62 world cup wins).  Lindsey now has her sights set on Ingemar Stenmark’s ‘s record 86 world cup wins, which doesn’t feel very far considering the way Lindsey is winning right now…

This was Lindssey’s 11th career win at Cortina.

Lindsey is now officially back to form after her two ACL surgeries in 12 months in 2013.
