Loveland Ski Area, Colorado, has officially kicked off snowmaking operations for the 2025–26 season, ahead of schedule and just days before its usual early-season start. The ski area’s snowmaking team fired up its guns around midnight on October 13–last year, snowmaking began on October 18.
The resort’s early snowmaking efforts are driven by its high elevation and the expertise of its dedicated snowmaking crew, renowned for producing some of the best early-season conditions in Colorado. The resort typically begins snowmaking in October, aiming to open by the end of October or early November, depending on weather conditions, particularly sustained cold temperatures. Last season, Loveland opened on November 9, but officials indicate a desire to welcome skiers even earlier this year.
Weather conditions have already been conducive to snowmaking, with cold overnight temperatures forecasted to continue. Once snow guns are fully operational, Loveland plans to cover approximately 240 acres of terrain, including popular trails like Home Run, Mambo, and Catwalk, to create a comprehensive top-to-bottom experience. The resort has historically aimed for an opening with an 18-inch snow base.
Last season, Loveland opened on November 9, and the resort has said it hopes to open even earlier this season, weather permitting.
