It’s summer but Mammoth Mountain is already scheming about next winter.

Today on July 23, 2026 — in the peak of North American summer where it’s 90ºF in the shade where I live in New Mexico — Mammoth Mountain in California’s Eastern Sierra Mountains announced its opening day for the 2026-27 winter season. In an email sent to SnowBrains, resort spokesperson Mike Imes wrote that the mountain will open on Friday, November 13, approximately 113 days away. The early announcement gives eager skiers and snowboarders an exact date to start counting down to, proving that winter is always on the resort’s mind.

To help riders lock in early plans before the snow starts falling, the resort is also rolling out early-bird ticket options. In a recent update shared to Mammoth Mountain’s official Instagram page, the resort highlighted its Quad Pack+ pass as a pretty incredible deal for anyone dreaming of next season. The offer breaks down to four days of riding at $100 per day with zero blackout dates, giving skiers maximum flexibility across peak winter weekends. However, bargain hunters will need to move quickly, as Mammoth confirmed on social media that pass prices are scheduled to go up after July 28.

In the meantime, guests visiting the Eastern Sierra during the warm months don’t have to wait until November to get an alpine adrenaline fix. Mammoth has been actively promoting its Via Ferrata experience as the ultimate summer mountain challenge. Operating daily with both 90-minute and private guided tours, the setup features six distinct routes ranging in difficulty. Outfitted with iron rungs, steel safety cables, and suspended bridges, the course allows adventurers to safely scale steep rock faces while taking in sweeping 360-degree views of the surrounding Sierra Nevada range. Tours can be reserved directly on Mammoth Mountain’s official website.

The countdown to winter is officially underway across the Eastern Sierra. While early-season operations will ultimately depend on Mother Nature delivering cold temperatures and early snowfall, setting a firm target gives skiers and riders a tangible reason to start tuning their gear. Until those lifts finally start spinning, whether you are tackling high-altitude Via Ferrata routes or locking in discounted pass deals before July 28, November 13 reminds us all that winter is never too far away.
