Mammoth Mountain, CA, Moves Opening Day Due to Incoming Snow Storm

Mammoth Mountain, California’s iconic Eastern Sierra resort, has pushed back its 2025–26 winter opening by one day—from Friday, November 14 to Saturday, November 15—to take full advantage of a snowstorm forecast to hit later this week.

In an update shared on Facebook and its website, the resort said the short delay will allow the mountain operations team more time to prepare optimal early-season conditions.

“We’re looking at a storm heading our way later this week, and we want to make our season kick-off the best it can be,” the resort announced. “To take full advantage of this new snow, we’ve made the call to move our official Opening Day to Saturday, November 15. This gives Mother Nature and our ops team the time they need to get the mountain dialed in for some amazing first turns.”

The incoming storm is expected to deliver several inches of natural snow across the Eastern Sierra, bolstering Mammoth’s snowmaking efforts and potentially allowing for a broader terrain opening at launch.

Mammoth’s opening weekend traditionally marks one of the first major resort openings in the western United States and sets the tone for California’s ski season. The resort will release a detailed operational plan—including which lifts and runs will open—closer to Saturday’s kickoff.

“We can’t wait to celebrate the start of the 2025-26 season with you on Saturday,” the resort added.

Mammoth, known for its long seasons that often stretch into July, will join a growing list of U.S. resorts opening in mid-November as colder temperatures return to the mountains. There are currently 20+ resorts open in North America, with the majority of open resorts situated in Colorado, while Ski Ward and Killington are the first in New England to open.
