Report from May 11, 2026
I was pretty worked when I showed up at Mammoth with a crew at 11am yesterday (Red Slate the previous day).
The first two runs I felt and skied like an old man.
Then the racecourse opened to the public…

We started lapping Drop Out 2 to the perfectly groomed racetrack to the pond skim.
My mind swam in oxytocin – my body flooded with endorphins.
Suddenly, we were lapping over and over and laughing our heads off.

There’s something about skimming across water on snow skis that just feels so right.
We slapped water both frozen and liquid for 3 hours and called it good.
I was exhausted.

We went to the lazy river in the evening and our surfing wave was gone again for the second year in a row.
It might be gone forever…
Thanks, California!
