Mammoth Mountain has announced it will remain open for skiing and snowboarding through at least Memorial Day weekend once again this season, after receiving more than seven feet of snow so far in February. The Eastern Sierra resort confirmed the extended operations as part of what it calls its “Second Season”—Mammoth’s annual stretch of spring skiing marked by longer days, softening snow, and high-elevation terrain that holds coverage deep into late May and often beyond.
After a series of February storms refilled the upper mountain, conditions have shifted firmly back into midwinter mode, setting the stage for a long spring run. Mammoth’s summit rises to 11,053 feet, and its predominantly north-facing terrain allows snow to preserve well into warmer months, making it one of the most reliable late-season operations in North America.
Second Season Shifts Operations
As Mammoth transitions into spring operations, some changes are scheduled:
-
Canyon and Eagle Lodges are set to close after April 19, 2026.
-
Beginning April 20, all lift access will operate out of Main Lodge.
-
In late April or early May, lift hours are expected to shift to 7:30 a.m.–2:00 p.m. to capitalize on optimal morning conditions. Exact dates for that change have not yet been finalized.
The resort is promoting its extended season with spring events, terrain park features, and travel deals aimed at keeping momentum high as other mountains begin to close.
A Familiar Late-Season Pattern
Last season, Mammoth extended operations through Memorial Day after a massive late-winter storm cycle delivered roughly 10 feet of snow beginning in February. While this year’s February total currently sits above seven feet, it has once again provided the coverage needed to confidently project late-May skiing.
Spring at Mammoth typically features firm early-morning groomers that transition to classic corn snow by midday, along with slushy park laps and bluebird après conditions. With several months still remaining in the traditional ski calendar, Mammoth’s announcement reinforces its reputation as one of the West’s most dependable spring skiing destinations.
