Spring skiing at Mammoth.

Mammoth Mountain, CA, has announced that it will remain open through at least June 5th. Mammoth’s spring season (its “second season,” as it’s known in the Eastern Sierra) is typically one of the longest in North America, and this year will be no different.

Mammoth opened for the season on October 29th, 2021, two weeks early, after historic October snowfall. Staying open through June 5th, 2022, will give them a 219-day season.

Mammoth has seen 341” of snowfall this season and is sitting on a 42” base. Not bad for mid-May!

Over the last five years, Mammoth has closed on May 31st, 2021; May 24th, 2020; July 7th, 2019 (after reopening following covid closure in March), June 17th, 2018, and August 6th, 2017.

22-23 Ikon pass holders will also be able to use their pass THIS season at Mammoth and there’s also a full slate of events to take us through the spring, including the Mammoth Yacht Club, set for Memorial Day Weekend with live music, boat races, costume contests and Ski/Bike/Golf.

  1. 99% sure Mammoth did not reopen in spring 2020 after the March 15 COVID closure.

Great article about Mammoth snow farming. By contrast Palisades can’t even create a strip to unload Siberia into the robust snowpack below its ridgeline.
