Yesterday Wild Mountain and Andes Tower Hills ski areas in Minnesota officially kicked off the North American ski season after temperatures dropped low enough for them to make enough snow to open lifts.

Day 1 is in the books 📖 Thanks to everyone who came out and supported this early opening We’ll be making snow again tonight and resetting a new park arrangement for Wednesday 🙏🏻 We will be open 1-7pm daily until more terrain is opened.

Wild Mountain

Initially, it looked like Andes Tower Hills would be the first to open after announcing the previous day it would run its magic carpet from 1-6 pm. That was until Wild Mountain snuck in with a late announcement that it would open at 12pm, winning the race to open by an hour. October 18th matches Wild Mountain’s second earliest opening date in its history (1992). Wild’s earliest opening date was October 7th in 2012.

Wild Mountain opened from 12 pm to 7 pm with the Front Stage trail serviced by the Front Stage rope tow, with four to six terrain park features available as well. The plan is to be open today 1-7pm. Early season conditions exist so all guests should expect bare spots, hidden obstacles, rocks, snowmaking equipment and other obstructions. Tickets will be $25 and season passes are valid (Night Passes valid at 4pm).

Andes Tower Hills opened 1 pm to 6 pm running the Turtle Express magic carpet offering 14 feet of vert on one run.

Regardless, North American ski season is now underway, and no matter how few runs or vertical was available, people had fun making turns on snow.

It won’t be long until we’re all skiing and riding. Soon.
