A winter storm has just dumped 114″ of new snow on the Lake Tahoe area in California. That’s nine-and-a-half FEET of new snow within three days. They’re calling it ‘Miracle March.

After a very long and dry season with low snow totals at many California ski areas, this latest snowfall was beyond needed. And down it fell. 114″ in three days is amazing to say the least, hence the miraculousness. It’s just such a shame that most California resorts are closed now due to the coronavirus! Respectfully, of course. However, if you are able to get up and ski the backcountry you are in store for some prime powder skiing.

NOTE: A persistent weak layer has definitely formed in the Sierra snowpack due to this recent storm and avalanche conditions are now dangerous. Please stay up to date with the snowpack and avalanche concerns and check in with your local avalanche advisory. More information can be found below.
