
A 21-year-old skier was found dead Thursday morning, February 19, after being reported missing at Northstar California Resort, according to the Placer County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies received a report of a possible missing person around 11 p.m. Wednesday, February 18. Investigators quickly located the man’s vehicle in the Northstar parking lot and determined he had gone skiing earlier in the day but had not returned as expected.

Authorities immediately began coordinating a search effort. A lieutenant from the Placer County Office of Emergency Management organized resources overnight, and the Tahoe Nordic Search and Rescue team was activated early Thursday morning.
15 skiers, supported by a snowcat and two snowmobiles, deployed to search the mountain. Members of Northstar Ski Patrol also assisted in the operation. At approximately 9 a.m., search teams located the man deceased.
The Sheriff’s Office extended its “deepest condolences” to the skier’s family and friends.
Local news identified the deceased as Colin Kang from Fremont, California. Kang was a ski instructor at Palisades Tahoe and a student at San Jose State University.
