According to East Idaho News, Search & Rescue teams are searching for a missing snowmobiler in the Mt. Jefferson area of Fremont County, ID. At around 5:00pm on Wednesday, local authorities were notified of a missing snowmobiler. A large group of them were venturing out in the backcountry near Mt. Jefferson, when one of them noticed that another was missing.

It was reported that there was an avalanche in the area, so it was presumed that the snowmobiler was buried in an avalanche. Local Search & Rescue teams responded to the scene, but they were unsuccessful in locating the 36-year-old man from Idaho Falls, ID, whose name has been withheld from being released pending family notification. Although, members of his party located his sled partially buried in avalanche debris, so it’s been presumed that he’s buried in the avalanche as well. Conditions have become too dangerous to continue the search, so local authorities are hoping to get back out there today.

“Unfortunately this has turned into a recovery mission. Members of his party found his snowmobile but we’ve been unsuccessful at locating him,” Fremont County Sheriff Len Humphries says. “The conditions became too dangerous to search for him tonight but we will be back up there as soon as we can to try and find him.”
