Due to excellent snowfall, Monarch Mountain, CO will stay open longer than previously anticipated this season. The ski area located near Salida, CO has announced that it will now close for the 2019-2020 season on Sunday, April 12, 2020, adding an additional week of skiing to the already great season they have had.

Being in operation for now 80 years, it’s an epic way to wrap up the season. With a snowfall total of 258 inches so far this season and a natural-base of 60 inches, it’s not hard to understand the thought process behind the ski area’s decision to stay open longer.

A closing day event to watch out for at Monarch is its annual, “Kayaks on Snow,” race taking place on Saturday, April 11. Boaters will race on the slopes as part of the mountain’s closing day tradition. Please keep in mind that this date is subject to change along with the closing weekend date.
