Mt Hotham, Victoria, will close for the 2026 winter season this Sunday, September 6, bringing the Australian ski season at one of the country’s major resorts toward its final days.
The resort announced the closure in a press release as well as a social media post, with Hotham Senior Manager Skier Services Chris saying the mountain’s teams had done everything they could to keep lifts turning. “Our teams have given it all that they have to keep us skiing and riding as long as we can, but Mother Nature had other plans for us this season, and with some tough conditions in the forecast, our final day of skiing and boarding for winter will be Sunday, 6 September,” Chris said.
Hotham is ringing the season out with plenty of fun activities. On Monday, August 31, Hotham held its annual Bird Bath Pond Skim. The final weekend will feature a pair of events, beginning with Hotham Retro Day on Saturday, September 5. Guests are encouraged to break out their best old-school ski gear before heading to The Bird for après with DJ Eddy from 3 to 6 p.m. On Sunday, September 6, the resort will host its annual Father’s Day Après event with live music, drinks, and giveaways from 12-3 p.m.
Hotham is encouraging skiers and snowboarders to make the most of the final days of the season and get in some last laps before winter operations come to an end.
Sunday will mark the final day of winter operations and Father’s Day in Australia. Hotham will celebrate with live music, drinks, and giveaways at The Bird from noon to 3 p.m.
The resort is also running end-of-season retail sales, with OneTree Sports, Board Box, and Pinnacle open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily. Selected items are discounted by up to 50%, with Epic Australia Pass holders receiving an additional 15% discount.
Hotham thanked its staff, guests, and wider community for supporting the resort throughout the season.
“To our staff, guests, and the whole Hotham community — thank you for showing up and making this season special,” the resort said.
With Hotham now set to close September 6, the Australian ski season is entering its final stretch, with spring conditions and closing dates arriving across the country’s remaining resorts.
