Ryan Ghelfi on the summit of Shasta after his record breaking ascent.

Whoa…  Ryan Ghelfi, mountain guide at Shasta Mountain Guides, just ran up 14,180′ Mt. Shasta in 1 hour, 37 minutes, and 5 seconds setting a new world record.

That’s 7,000-vertical-feet in 1:37.  Whoa…

Unreal…

“1:37:05!!
SMG Guide and professional Nike runner Ryan Ghelfi just crushed the speed record (FKT) on Mt. Shasta. It’s awesome to see hard work, dedication, and persistence pay off. Great effort Ryan, you absolutely rock!!

It’s been 4 years and 5 attempts on the Mount Shasta ‪#‎FKT‬. I’ve come up short each year. I figured the only way to find out if I’d ever be good enough was to just keep trying. This year all the stars aligned, the weather was good, snow conditions were good, my fitness was as good as it’s been in a while. I doubted that I’d make it all the way til the end, but I rolled over onto the summit in 1:37:05, good enough for the FKT. 1:05 faster than @rickeygates did in 2012.” – Shasta Mountain Guides
