Everything You Need to Know about the MRA Summer Shredfest at Beartooth Basin

We are getting increasingly excited to host the first annual (and destined to-be-classic) celebration of community ski areas from June 16-18, 2017. Serving as the proper end-of-the-season party, Summer Shredfest combines community, competition and culture in an unforgettable weekend that you won’t want to miss.

BEARTOOTH BASIN – The host venue and home to North America’s premiere steep summer ski area, BTB is the quintessential Mountain Playground. 2 poma lifts serve 600 acres of advanced and expert terrain plus jumps, terrain features, gates and a bump line. Lift tickets are $45 for a full day, $35 for half day and $20 for power hour. (Due to the remote location, it is cash only.)

BURGER AND BEER APRES SKI – Sego Skis is generously providing complimentary grub and suds on Saturday afternoon to participants.

CELL SERVICE – There is no cell reception at Beartooth Basin, as it is located in a remote spot. The coverage is excellent in Red Lodge, 45 minutes away.

COMMUNITY SKI AREAS AT RISK SYMPOSIUM – Join us to for an informative session covering the challenge and opportunities facing mom and pop and community owned ski areas. Friday at 5 pm at the Old Roosevelt Gym, 518 South Broadway, Red Lodge.

DEMOS – Coalition Snow and Free Life Snowboards will have demos available in the Beartooth Basin parking lot.

FREERIDE WORLD QUALIFIER – The summer’s only FWQ event, this 2 star event costs $85. Competitors may compete with their 2017 IFSA Membership, but points will go towards 2018 ranking. Saturday at 9 am, Beartooth Basin. Click here to register.

GOODIE BAG – The first 150 participants will get a bunch of swag from our gracious sponsors.

LODGING – Both the Yodeler Motel and the Red Lodge KOA are offering Shredfest participants $10 off per night discounts. Click here for a full list of lodging options.

PIG RACING – For a true slice of Montana flavor, check out the Bear Creek Downs Pig Races, at the Bear Creek Salon and Steakhouse, located 7 miles east of Red Lodge. Those arriving on Thursday night, we hope to see you there. The first porkers race around 7 pm.

RAFFLE – Tickets will be available at BTB with prizes including skis and snowboards of your choice as well as other hard and soft goods.

ROAD CONDITIONS – The Beartooth Highway is a radical road that climbs to almost 11,000 feet, passing through Montana and Wyoming. As such, weather (snow and/or wind) can shut the road, even in mid June. Click here for the current conditions.

SHEJUMPS GET THE GIRLS OUT – Open to all females, the day includes skiing and riding, a big mountain freeride clinic, rescue demo and beacon practice, finishing off with an apres ski and raffle in the parking lot. Friday at 10 am, Beartooth Basin. Tickets begin at $35, click here to register.

SKI TOURING – Along the Beartooth Highway, there is a plethora of backcountry ski and snowboard options. From easily car shuttles to half and all day tours, the terrain is legitimate.

SUSTAINABILITY – With the goal of being a certified net carbon neutral, zero-waste event in 2018, the event will be benchmarked against the STOKE Events standard.

TRAVEL INFORMATION – Those driving, Red Lodge is located 68 miles from the Northeast Entrance to Yellowstone National Park. If you are flying, Billings, MT (1 hour) and Cody, WY (1.5 hours) are the best airports to use. You will need to rent a car to drive to Red Lodge.
