Report from February 3-7, 2025

February has started in the absolute best way at Mt. Bachelor, Oregon. The snow gods have delivered every day of February thus far. February began with three consecutive big storm days, totaling around 20 inches. Since then, every day (and night) has featured at least a few more inches. Not only that, but thanks to persistent frigid temperatures, the snow has been extremely light. It is hard to compare snow across time and place, but Mt. Bachelor felt comparable to Utah at the end of the 2023-24 season.

Mt. Bachelor has worked incessantly to open terrain despite the huge storm system. With daily (and nightly) storm recovery efforts, the Mt. Bachelor team has managed to open all the sub-summit lifts, including the Northwest Express. Even amidst gale-forceย winds (80+ mph), incredible efforts have maintained access for riders from the terrain east of Cloudchaser to the hallowed West Bowls. Enough thanks cannot be sent to the diligent work of the lift operations and maintenance crews.

With some clear weather in the next few days, Mt. Bachelor’s next task will be to unbury the Summit Express. Once Summit opens, riders will be able to drop off the top in any direction they please and remain in bounds. If it opens, riders can look forward to a weekend bounty when Ski Patrol completes its bombing of the Cirque Bowl and opens the gates.
