Winter has officially arrived in the PNW and Mt. Baker now has the deepest snowpack in Washington! ย It snowed most of this holiday week (December 22 – 28, 2014), covering and filling in much of what was left and we even had a few deep powder days, typical Baker style. ย Baker is now able to run all eight lifts and about 95% of trails are open. ย Ski patrol managed to get Canyons open Sunday afternoon with some hooting and hollering from those who found the goods.ย With 5″ of new snow in the past 12 hours and 16″ of new snow in the last 24 hours, there are going to be some happy skiers and riders. ย Friday and Saturday it snowed most of the day and filled in throughout the day so it was one of those free-refill kind of days. ย Both base areas and the three lodges are now in full operation. ย The Heather Meadows base total is now 46″ and the summit total at Pan Dome is 64″.
The snow this week was awesome and it kept falling! ย The groomers were cruising smoothly and off piste was fantastic with deep powder that wasn’t hard to find. ย We really needed this storm! ย The crowds kept moving and never bottled up for any major lines so the overall positive attitude remained constant. ย Early this week is looking like some rare Baker blue bird so bust out those shades and the new holiday gear and enjoy the great snow before the New Year!
