Mt. Rose Ski Tahoe will host a free Learn to Snowboard Day for young children on Sunday, January 11, 2026, giving first-timers a playful introduction to snowboarding. The event runs from 9:30 a.m. to noon near the resort’s Main Lodge and is open to kids ages 4-7. Participants will rotate through a series of activity stations inside Mt. Rose’s custom Learn to Snowboard specialty park, designed to introduce balance, movement, and basic board awareness in a low-pressure environment. No equipment is required to participate.
“This is about welcoming kids into snowboarding and sparking curiosity,” Mike Pierce said in a press release, Mt. Rose Ski Tahoe’s marketing director. “It’s not a full lesson, but it’s a fun way to introduce the basics and show how much joy there is in playing on snow.”
Parents are encouraged to dress children warmly with snow pants, a winter jacket, waterproof footwear, and a helmet. The resort notes that the session is designed as a first exposure rather than formal instruction, with an emphasis on comfort, confidence, and fun.
Located just outside Reno, Mt. Rose Ski Tahoe regularly hosts youth-focused programs aimed at growing participation in snowsports. The resort says the Learn to Snowboard Day is part of a broader effort to make winter recreation accessible to families and newcomers.
The event is free and open to the public, with space available on a first-come basis.
