New Free App Helps You Find Your Friends on the Mountain: “Fluri”

Losing friends on the mountain sucks. At one time or another, we’ve all waited at the lift for a ski buddy, missing runs and fresh tracks, only to realize he was waiting for you at the lodge. And of course nobody responds to texts while they’re skiing (if they even have cell service!) so good luck figuring out the problem before all the powder gets skied out.

Fluri is a new mobile app that solves this age-old problem. It shows you where you and your friends are at all times — and it shows your locations on the resort trail map you’re already familiar with, rather than a confusing satellite or GPS view. No more waiting at the wrong lift, wondering if your buddy is stuck in the trees, or worrying whether you’ll ever find your son again after his first time taking a run on his own.

The best part? Fluri doesn’t drain your battery like many of the other ski tracking apps. The team comes from Strava, the popular running and cycling app, and has built a smart system that minimizes use of the phone’s sensors so you can keep it running all day. It also doesn’t require a steady cell connection. It will track you anywhere on the mountain and update your friends from the background when you reach an area with a signal.

Fluri also records runs, vertical feet, top speed, and all the other fun stats so you can brag to your friends about your epic day (or epic season).

It’s free, it’s available now for iPhone, and it’s live with maps for over 50 resorts across North America, with more added every week.
