Santa is bringing snow to much for the Western USA for Christmas this year.

NOAA has issue Winter Advisories for:

  • California

8-20″ of snow is forecast in Central and Northern Sierra Nevada.

  • Nevada

10-14″ of snow forecast in the Ruby Mountains.

  • Oregon

9-15″ of snow forecast in Central Oregon.

  • Washington

Heavy snow is forecast, Winter Weather Advisory issued for Crystal Mountain.

  • Idaho

3-6″ of snow forecast in the West Central Mountains.

  • Montana

1-3″ of snow forecast Northwestern MT.

  • Colorado

8-16″ of snow forecast in the San Juan Mountains.

California:

...WINTER STORM WARNING IN EFFECT FROM 10 AM MONDAY TO 7 AM PST
TUESDAY ABOVE 6000 FEET...
* WHAT...Heavy snow expected. Plan on difficult travel conditions,
including during the afternoon and evening commute on Monday.
Total snow accumulations of 8 to 12 inches, with localized
amounts up to 20 inches over higher peaks, are expected.
* WHERE...Western Plumas County, Lassen Volcanic National Park and
the west slope of the northern Sierra Nevada including
Interstate 80 over Donner Pass and Highway 50 over Echo Summit.
* WHEN...10 AM Monday to 7 AM Tuesday.
* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Be prepared for significant reductions in
visibility at times.

Nevada:

...WINTER STORM WARNING IN EFFECT FROM 4 PM MONDAY TO 4 PM PST
TUESDAY...

* WHAT...Heavy snow expected. Total snow accumulations of 10 to
14 inches expected.

* WHERE...Ruby Mountains/East Humboldt Range.
* WHEN...From 4 PM Monday to 4 PM PST Tuesday.
* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Travel could be difficult to impossible.
The hazardous conditions could impact holiday travelers due to
snow covered roads and low visibility.

Oregon:

...WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 10 PM PST
MONDAY ABOVE 4500 FEET...

* WHAT...Snow expected. Additional snow accumulations of 9 to 11
inches, with localized amounts up to 15 inches, are expected.

* WHERE...South Oregon Cascades and Siskiyou Mountains, including
Crater Lake, Diamond Lake, and Lake of the Woods. This includes
Highways 138, 140, 62, and 230. Roads in the Siskiyous will be
impacted by snow accumulations on Monday, including the Mount
Ashland Ski Road.
* WHEN...Until 10 PM PST Monday.
* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Travel will be very difficult to
impossible, including during the evening commute on Monday. Be
prepared for reduced visibilities at times.

Washington:

...WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 4 AM PST
MONDAY...
* WHAT...Snow showers will continue tonight with a snow level
around 1500 feet. Snow showers will be heavy at times.
* WHERE...Cascade mountains and valleys of Snohomish, King,
Pierce, and Lewis Counties, including Stevens Pass, Snoqualmie
Pass, the Crystal Mountain Ski Area, White Pass, and Paradise
on Mount Rainier. Olympic Mountains including Hurricane Ridge.
* WHEN...Until 4 AM PST Monday.
* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Expect winter travel conditions in the
mountains, travel in the passes could be difficult at times,
with brief highway closures possible.

Idaho:

...WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY NOW IN EFFECT UNTIL 5 AM MST /4 AM
PST/ MONDAY...
* WHAT...Snow occurring. Plan on slippery road conditions.
Additional snow accumulations of 1 to 3 inches in the valleys
and 3 to 6 inches in the mountains, are expected.
* WHERE...In Oregon, Baker County zone. In Idaho, West Central
Mountains and Upper Weiser River zones.
* WHEN...Until 5 AM MST /4 AM PST/ Monday.
* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Be prepared for reduced visibilities at
times.

Montana:

...WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 11 AM MST MONDAY... 

* WHAT...Snow. Additional snow accumulations of 1 to 3 inches. 

* WHERE...Flathead/Mission Valleys, West Glacier Region and Kootenai/Cabinet Region. 

* WHEN...Until 11 AM MST Monday. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Plan on slippery road conditions.

Colorado:

...WINTER STORM WATCH REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM TUESDAY MORNING
THROUGH WEDNESDAY EVENING...
* WHAT...Heavy snow possible. Total snow accumulations of 8 to
16 inches possible with locally higher amounts. Winds could
gust as high as 30 to 40 mph.
* WHERE...Northwest San Juan Mountains and Southwest San Juan
Mountains.
* WHEN...From Tuesday morning through Wednesday evening.
* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Holiday travel could be very difficult.
Blowing snow could significantly reduce visibility.
