NOAA: Winter Storm Watch Issued For CA | 1+ FEET of Snow Above 7,500ft Wednesday Afternoon – Friday Morning

The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Watch for California. It is in effect from 4:00pm Wednesday Afternoon – 4:00am Friday Morning. The heaviest snow accumulations are expected to occur above 7,500ft, but snow is forecasted to fall below lake level.

Snow levels will start out around 6,000ft on Wednesday, but they are expected to drop down to 5,500ft – 4,000ft throughout the day Thursday.

THROUGH LATE THURSDAY NIGHT...

* WHAT...Heavy snow possible...plan on difficult travel
 conditions. Possible damage to trees and power lines. Total snow
 accumulations of a foot or more above 7500 feet. Accumulations
 below 7500 feet are more uncertain and depend on how fast snow
 levels fall Thursday, but could reach 4 or more inches.

* WHERE...Greater Lake Tahoe Area.

* WHEN...From Wednesday afternoon through late Thursday night.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Significant reductions in visibility are
 possible. VERY LONG TRAVEL DELAYS over Sierra passes possible
 Wednesday night through Thursday night.
