Good news has arrived for ski enthusiasts in the Tahoe region. If they thought winter was winding down, Mother Nature had other plans for the final weeks. The recent storm system that swept through the Sierra Nevada mountains last week has dropped over 2.5 feet of fresh powder, creating ideal conditions for spring skiing. Weโ€™re talking fluffy top layers mixed with warm blue-bird conditions.

In response, Northstar California and Kirkwood Mountain Resort have announced they’re extending their seasons by a full week, now remaining open until April 20.

Heavenly Mountain Resort was already scheduled to operate through April 20, so all three major Tahoe-area resorts will now close on the same date, giving skiers and riders plenty of opportunities to hit the slopes well into spring.

Spring skiing in Tahoe offers a unique experience that many consider the best time to visit. The days are longer, temperatures milder, and the atmosphere more relaxed. With this fresh snowfall, conditions should remain excellent throughout April.

“This latest storm delivered exactly what we needed to keep the fun going,” Tara Schoedinger said, Vice President & General Manager of Northstar California Resort, highlighting how the timing of this snowfall couldn’t have been better for extending the season.

Each mountain is embracing the extended season with special events and activities. Northstar will feature live music in the Village every Friday through Sunday, plus its Pepsi Patio Pop-Up on weekends when weather permits. Don’t miss the Spring It On festival this weekend at Northstar (April 5-6), which includes the always entertaining pond skim and rail jam competitions.

Kirkwood, known for its challenging terrain, will host the IFSA Junior National Championships from April 11-13, showcasing young talent on some of the mountain’s most demanding runs. The resort’s own pond skim event is scheduled for April 19, making for an exciting penultimate day of the season.

โ€œWhen the mountains deliver, we want to make sure our employees and guests can take full advantage,โ€ Ricky Newberry said, Vice President & General Manager of Kirkwood Mountain Resort. โ€œWith great conditions, our amazing team and community, and our classic spring events, thereโ€™s no better time to be here to experience the spring magic.โ€ย

Heavenly will maintain its vibrant spring atmosphere with DJ sets at the Tamarack Lodge and Stein’s. The resort’s pond skim is on April 12, followed by a weekend of closing celebrations leading up to the final day.
