We made a last minute decision to ski a day at Ohau on our way up to the club fields and boy are we glad we did. This is a smaller ski field that’s located about 2 hours northeast of Wanaka. It really has a small town, locals feel, with a cute lodge and just one slow double chair. There is also a poma lift and magic carpet for beginners that is actually great terrain for learning how to ski and snowboard.

They received 5cm of snow overnight with lots of wind, so we were able to find some really good wind blown aspects. Exhibition and Tom’s Drop seemed to be holding the best winter snow, and Sun Run had some excellent corn snow later in the day. Overall, this place far exceeded my expectations for a ski field with one chair lift. I guess if it’s good enough for the US Ski Team to come and train at, it’s good enough for me as well.
