Thanksgiving is a time for celebration, but it’s not just about the food, football, and family time. For many ski resorts across the United States, Thanksgiving signals the start of the season (or at least the projected start). But will there be snow?
With it only being the end of Fall, these openings are very much weather-dependent. Fortunately, the Old Farmer’s Almanac has just released its predictions for the week of Thanksgiving, giving us a little insight into how the weather might be around that time.

For the vast majority of the West and Northeast, it’s looking wet and cold. The best chances for snow will be in the Intermountain West, New England, and the Cascades.
Even if resorts don’t get natural snowfall, temperatures should be good enough to make their own.

The Mid-Atlantic and Midwest are less certain with varied temperatures and precipitation across both regions. The best chances of snowfall will be in Minnesota and Wisconsin. Resorts in the Poconos and the Alleghenies in Pennsylvania should have the opportunity to make some snow with colder-than-normal temperatures.

The Southeast and southern Appalachians are expected to have warmer-than-average weather. Unfortunately, this could hinder snowmaking abilities for Sugar Mountain and Cataloochee, which are usually the first resorts to open in the region.
Whether you’re hoping this forecast is accurate or not, remember to take this information with a grain of salt. Long-term forecasts can be hard to predict accurately. If you would like to check out the full forecast, check out the Old Farmer’s Almanac.
