This was the 36-year-old’s fifth Winter Olympics and her first gold medal.

“This feels incredible because this level that all the women are riding at is a lot higher than it was 16 years ago.”

– Lindsey Jacobellis

Jacobellis is now the oldest American woman to win a medal of any color at the Winter Olympics. She is also the oldest snowboarding medalist of any gender, according to Olympedia.org.

Jacobellis controversially won silver in Turin at the 2006 Winter Olympics. In a gold-winning position, she celebrated too early, failed to land a jump, and was overtaken on the line.
