Mikaela Shiffrin’s original plan was to enter the five individual Alpine skiing disciplines. But after disappointing results in her first four events, she told Eurosport that she would also join Team USA in the mixed team parallel slalom competition.
“I’m going to do the team event as well.”
– Mikaela Shiffrin
It will be the first time Shiffrin has competed in the team event.
26-year-old Shiffrin is back in action today in the women’s combined event. At the last winter Olympics, she took silver in this event.
Shiffrin will become only the second woman to compete in all six events at the Winter Olympics. Petra Vlhova of Slovakia entered all six Alpine skiing events four years ago in PyeongChang.
Shiffrin’s record in the Olympics has been ninth in the super-G, two DNFs (giant slalom and slalom), and 18th in downhill, the first time in her Olympic career she has finished outside the top 10.
