The 1960 Winter Olympics was held from February 18 to February 29, 1960. The Squaw Valley resort was chosen to host the Games at the 1956 meeting of the International Olympic Committee (IOC). 1. Corrections: The VIII Olympic Winter Games were awarded in June 1955 in Paris and the total cost of facilities was $15 million.

  2. Nice to see that the Snowbrains writers/staff aren’t afraid of a derogatory word. For those who cringe whenever hearing this word, just remember that sticks and stones may break your bones. But a good Squaw would never hurt you.

  3. Squaw Valley, CA is East of Fresno. It’s been Squaw Valley since 1879. You have the wrong location in the title of this post. The Ski Area formerly known as Squaw Valley is in Olympic Valley, Ca. Weird that a ski blog website doesn’t know this?
