This January continues to be a nightmare for avalanche deaths in the USA. We’ve seen more avalanche deaths this January (12) than we saw all of last winter in the USA (11).
The latest victim was 20-year-old Kirk Kinzer, Jr from Lewiston, ID. He was snowmobiling with family and friends in the Twin Lakes area near Brundage ski resort, ID when he triggered and was caught in an avalanche around 2:30pm.
It’s being reported that family members attempted CPR on Kirk without results. Kirk died of his injuries. Air ambulance, McCall Fire, EMS, Forest Service law enforcment and Adams County deputies all responded to the emergency.
Our condolences to Kirk’s family and friends.
The USA has seen 15 avalanche fatalities this winter. The USA averages 28 avalanche deaths per year.
