Report for Sunday, March 29, 2026
Cast your mind back to when the Canada–U.S. border snapped shut for two years. For many in border towns, life on either side was completely upended. My gear and home mountain, a hundred miles south in Vermont, suddenly felt worlds away. That’s when I reconnected with snowboarding in Quebec.
My first priority was replacing my gear. Shipping boots, boards, and bindings seemed unrealistic, so I ended up at a go-to spot for Montrealers: Poubelle de Ski. The sales guy, extremely knowledgeable, didn’t hesitate when I shared my tale. “Owl’s Head — c’est incroyable,” he said. I knew exactly where I’d go first. I’ve returned every season since.

For 2025-26 — fantastic news for Townships locals and travelers alike — Owl’s Head has officially joined the Indy Pass. A quiet fixture since Fred Korman opened it in 1965 with just three lifts, it remains fiercely independent. From the summit on a clear day, you can see another first-class Indy resort, Jay Peak, across the lake, a reminder of just how close this corner of Quebec sits to the heart of New England ski country.
Knowing my Jones Twin Sister chatters on hardpack, I grabbed the Rossi Frenemy from that first Poubelle trip. I tossed my Burton bullet ratchet tool in the truck, and headed south on the 10. After a quick parking-lot binding switch, I headed for the lakeside lifts. I’ll confess: I skipped the summit chair this trip. Between an active race and some icy peaks, lakeside was the move. There is always the next run!

This side of the mountain is surprisingly protected from any wind. The views of Lake Memphremagog here never cease to be breathtaking. While the snow surface was firm for late March, it softened perfectly as temps climbed above zero. Despite the rain in the forecast, there were breaks of full sun, and the view of Jay Peak across Memphremagog was the clearest I’ve ever seen.
Owl’s Head punches well above its weight with a 1,772-foot vertical drop, one of the highest in Quebec. It’s a spectacular mix; you’ll see parents charging down steeps with groms in tow right next to dedicated split-boarders hitting the uphill route. Whenever anyone comes to visit me now for a little east coast snow, we drive down to Owl’s Head. The winding route through East Bolton and Mansonville on the 245 and 243 is part of the magic.

All in, it was an amazing Sunday solo session. I lapped runs, cranked my Cardo, and soaked in the vibe. A massive thank you to Tristan in the chalet for rescuing my phone! From the helpful staff to the iconic red Muskoka chairs for lounging in the sun, I always feel at home here.
Owl’s Head official season closing date is April 20. Then preparations swing into gear for their Ski & Golf day, set for May 3. We’ve had some heavy rains in southern Quebec this week, but the snow is holding at upper elevations. While the mountain has stalled operations currently to preserve the snowpack for the holiday weekend, they accumulated another dusting of the good stuff over the past few days. And let’s be real—we’ll get that classic Easter snowstorm in the coming days. We always do.
