As January is now behind us, Palisades Tahoe, CA, looks back at this (almost) record-breaking month in its #JanuBURIED 2023 recap blog.

“We’re nearly at our average season snowfall of 400” and we still have 4+ months of winter remaining. The massive snowfall amount in January allowed us to open 100% of our terrain including Silverado. Our crews worked hard on the mountain and in the base areas to provide an amazing month of skiing for you!”

The resort received over 14 feet of snow in January, bringing the season total to 369″ and counting. The base is currently at 126″. Check out recent reports from SnowBrains and the resort for current skiing conditions.

172” of snow was recorded at the Belmont snow plot on the Palisades side. In the last twenty years, that record has only been beaten once, during the 2016-2017 season, when the January total was a whopping 274”. In third place is the 2007-2008 season, with a January total of 148”.

The opening of the brand new Base to Base gondola, seamlessly connecting Palisades and Alpine for the first time, made it easier for guests to access the 100% open terrain at the resort. January also saw the opening of the new high-speed, detachable six-person Red Dog Lift.

With conditions as good as they are, there has never been a better time to visit Palisades Tahoe, and the resort has some fantastic deals just for you. Stay slopeside and be steps from the lifts from $103/night, and ski from $120/day with the Tahoe Super 4.

February also sees the return of World Cup racing to Palisades Tahoe. The resort will host the Men’s Slalom and Giant Slalom events along Dog Leg and Red Dog Face, and the new Red Dog Lift will provide easy access for competitors and event organizers alike. Featured in 2017 for the World Cup Women’s Alpine Event, Olympic champion Mikaela Shiffrin described this Red Dog course as “one of, if not the toughest” venues on the World Cup circuit.

Hopefully, the massive snowfall and deep base are setting up a long season of skiing and riding at the Spring Skiing Capital—could we see Fourth of July riding in 2023? Keep an eye on the resort’s website for updates on spring terrain offerings, spring deals, spring music series, and other lively spring events.
