Report from Friday & Saturday August 22 & 23
After two below-average seasons, every Australian skier had prayed for a good season and, boy, is 2025 delivering!
All lifts are spinning—I think this season has been the most the trusty Olympic t-bar has run in five years—and all areas are interconnected, so now is the perfect time to visit Perisher Resort in Australia.

Where did we ski? Maybe it’s easier to say where we didn’t ski and that was Smiggin Holes—sorry, Smiggs, I do love that nook as well but there was just too much good snow in Guthega, Blue Cow, and Perisher. I love heading for the t-bars to avoid crowds, so we spent a lot of time at Eyre and International t-bar. I also recommend the Reuben toastie at Eyre Cafe. Getting to Eyre is now even easier with the new Mt. Perisher six-chair. Boulders at the top of the mountain were blasted to give direct access to Shiftys.

Conditons are marvelous. To be fair, the bottom of Guthega at the Carpark Chairlift is getting a little bit thin, but the snowstorm forecast for the end of this week should fix that instantly.

Still, I will weave my way down to Basecamp on way less snow happily for the best breakfast on the mountain—if you have not been, you’re missing out! Thanks to the fantastic weather, we got to enjoy our coffees and bacon and egg baguette on the terrace.

Can I make a public service announcement at this stage? The area below the Summit Chair in Blue Cow is roped off (and clearly marked as off limits) as it is a protected area for the Pygmy Possum. The Pygmy Possum is critically endangered and this is one of the few known habitats left in the Snowy Mountains, so don’t ski or board through it.

But back to the snow—conditions were spring-like: cruddy in the morning and slushy in the afternoon (but not sticky), but temperatures are set to drop again. It certainly is no comparison to last year where warm winds started eroding the cover quickly in late August. We just have to get through the warm spell tomorrow before temperatures will drop below freezing again.

Current snow depth is 174.3 centimeters (68.6 inches) and there is between 50-80 centimeters (20-32 inches) of snowfall forecast for this week. So if you are looking for an excuse to come down, look no further. I have also spoken to several lodge owners who have said the same thing: bookings for September are wide open, so make the most of it and come to Perisher this September for some fantastic spring skiing.
