Colorado ski areas shared pictures this weekend of the first dusting of snow of winter 2025-26 on their mountain peaks. Breckenridge, Copper, Arapahoe Basin, Telluride, Winter Park, and Loveland have all shared pictures of snowy mountains, and Trail Ridge Road in Rocky Mountain National Park was closed due to the wintry weather.
Denver meteorologist Chris Tomer forecasts even more snow as the week progresses.
The snow has arrived a little later in Colorado than in the previous few years. Last year, the first snow fell on September 11, in 2023 on August 16, and on August 19 in 2021. In 2020, the first snow fell on August 29th; in 2019, the first snow didn’t arrive until September 12th.
Arapahoe Basin, Keystone, and Loveland will all open as soon as possible, with snowmaking operations set to begin within the next couple of weeks.
