Banff Sunshine Village, Alberta, experienced rare summer snow on June 21, marking the first day of summer with a fresh layer of powder. The unseasonal snow fell across the resort early Saturday morning while much of southern Alberta braced for heavy rain and wind.

Sunshine Village shared photos on social media yesterday showing the snowy landscape. According to weather forecasts posted by the resort, temperatures hovered around 4°C, with up to 10 inches (25 centimeters) of snow predicted throughout the day.

Although the ski season officially ended on May 20, and all lifts and runs remain closed to the public, Sunshine Village, situated at an elevation of 8,957 feet (2,730 meters), is no stranger to late-season snow; a similar event occurred in August of the previous year.
Despite the picturesque conditions, resort officials advised against breaking out skis, as operations will not resume until the planned start of the 2025-26 season on November 8. In the meantime, the resort is promoting early-bird sales for its upcoming winter season passes, offering up to 40% savings and unlimited access to one of Canada’s longest ski seasons.
