[PHOTOS] First Snow of Winter 2025-26 Falls on Big Sky Resort’s Lone Peak

The first snowfall of the season arrived at Big Sky Resort’s Lone Peak on September 15, blanketing the summit at 11,166 feet in a light dusting of snow. Construction crews working on Kircliff, the Montana resort’s new scenic viewing platform situated atop Lone Peak, captured the early winter dusting as work progresses on the platform.

The Kircliff viewing platform, situated at the summit elevation, is part of Big Sky Resort’s ongoing $150 million expansion and is scheduled to open later this year with the new Explorer Gondola. The 360-degree vantage point will offer views spanning ten mountain ranges, across three states, and into two national parks, promising a year-round attraction for visitors.

While the ski season officially begins on November 26, the early snowfall offers a timely sign of the approaching winter months in Montana’s high country.

Big Sky averages around 400 inches of snowfall annually, and winter operations will kick off in just over 70 days.

Elsewhere in the United States, resorts in Colorado saw their first snow of the 2025-26 winter season over the weekend.
