If you’re still thinking about skiing in mid-May, you’re probably eyeing up some steep north-facing chute high up in the mountains, or perhaps a nice glacier lap on Mount Rainier or one of the other cascade volcanoes. Unless you’re on the U.S. Ski Team, then, you’re already thinking about next season. Members of the U.S. women’s speed ski team including Mikaela Shiffrin, Breezy Johnson, Allison Mollin, and Keely Cashman, recently put in a little bit of (very) early season training at Mammoth Mountain, California in the last few days of April.

Taking advantage of the 12th snowiest April Mammoth Mountain has ever recorded, the speed crew put in a few more hot laps on home soil before shifting to summer training. Typically, the U.S. team can be found training for speed events at Copper Mountain, Colorado, but with fantastic conditions at Mammoth Mountain, which recorded 48 inches of snowfall in April at the main lodge, and 74 inches at the summit, the opportunity to train under the Californian sun was ideal.
Lifts at Mammoth Mountain will continue to spin through Memorial Day Weekend.
