Conditions Report
It’s been snowing for days on end in the Central Andes. Ski resorts like Portillo and the Valle Nevado network near Santiago have reported roughly 4.5 meters (over 15 feet) of snow since the storm began on Wednesday, July 15. Heavy snow is still expected to fall in the coming days, with over another meter of snow forecast through the week.
It’s currently Snowpocalyspe in Chile.
The recent snowfall is historic—perhaps the biggest snowfall event in Chile in decades. Portillo won’t be able to open its road for days and isn’t expecting to welcome guests back for skiing and riding until July 27 when it becomes possible after the storms settle.

Perhaps there is such a thing as too much snow?
In the meantime, we as skiers and snowboarders can only enjoy photos of all the new snow and keep drooling what the conditions will be like once the storms pass and turns can be made again.
