[UPDATE: September 28, 2026]

Swiss cantonal police have identified the three victims as two British citizens, aged 55 and 42, while the third victim was identified as a 58-year-old Danish citizen. The Valais/Wallis police shared the update in a press release on September 28, 2026, but provided no further details.

In line with Swiss privacy laws, the victims were not identified by name. However, Owain Davies was identified when the news broke, and British newspaper BBC identified the other British victim four days ago as Tony Hall. Hall was the owner of Wolverhampton Halfpenny Green Airport in Staffordshire and was the managing director of Pegasus, a construction and recycling company based in Lye, near Stourbridge.

Three people, including two British citizens, were killed in a plane crash in the Swiss Alps on Tuesday, September 15, 2026. Welsh manufacturing leader and Amcanu Managing Director Owain Davies was among the three people killed when a Cirrus SR22T crashed near Leukerbad.

The aircraft had taken off from Lugano in the canton of Ticino and stopped at Sion airport in Valais/Wallis before continuing toward Buochs Airport in the canton of Nidwalden. Shortly after 4 p.m., it crashed for reasons that remain unknown into a northern slope in the Fluhalp area near Leukerbad. A large amount of smoke was subsequently reported by hikers in the area.

Rescuers from the Cantonal Valais Rescue Organization responded with three helicopters and two rescue specialists. The three occupants were found deceased at the scene. The victims have not yet been formally identified, although Amcanu confirmed that Davies was among those killed. The company identified the other two victims as Davies’ best friends. The aircraft, identified in U.S. Federal Aviation Administration records as N44T, was a 2025 Cirrus SR22T registered to a Delaware company, with only 120 hours logged to its flight record.

Davies, who led the Welsh manufacturing company Amcanu, was an experienced pilot with a deep passion for aviation. At the time of the crash, however, Davies was traveling as a passenger alongside his friends. It is unconfirmed at this point who the pilot of the plane was. According to a statement released by Amcanu, flying was an important part of Davies’ life. He had a large circle of friends within the aviation community and regularly flew his helicopter when the opportunity arose. His work with Wales Air Ambulance was particularly important to him. “Flying was something that brought Owain enormous happiness throughout his life,” Amcanu said. Amcanu is a family-owned manufacturing company founded by his father, Spencer Davies OBE, in Burry Port, Wales, in 1975. He took over the business from his father in 1990. He is survived by his wife Michelle, children Aron and Ffion, father Spencer and grandchildren Oakley and Albie.

The crash occurred in the Fluhalp region near Leukerbad, a mountain resort and spa town in Switzerland’s canton Valais/Wallis, where the valley floor sits at 1,411 meters (4,629 feet). The plane was flying through a valley ringed by prominent peaks, several exceeding 3,000 meters, including the Rinderhorn at 3,449 meters (11,316 feet) and the Balmhorn at 3,698 meters (12,133 feet). The Fluhalp itself sits between 1,690–2,606 meters (5,545–8,550 feet) and offers views across to the Matterhorn.

The Swiss Transportation Safety Investigation Board — Schweizerische Sicherheitsuntersuchungsstelle (SUST) or Service Suisse d’Enquête de Securité (SESA) — which deals with civil aviation accidents has opened an investigation to determine the circumstances and cause of the accident.. The Federal Prosecutor’s Office is working with Valais cantonal police on the criminal investigation.
