Fernie Alpine Resort has received 37 cm of blower pow in the last 7 days, and conditions are all time.

Located in the Lizard Range of southeast British Columbia, Canada, Fernie boasts an annual average of 37 ft. of snowfall a year. Unlike most intercontinental resorts in America that get a few inches at a time, the Canadian Rockies are far enough north to get feet at a time.

The mountains here are enormous and jagged, so know what’s below you before you drop into a line, otherwise, you might find yourself cliffed out.

I spent the day on the Timber Bowl chair, the White Pass Chair, and the Polar Peak chair. These are all on the looker’s left of the resort.

The skiing here was great, with a mixture of bowls, chutes, and glades. I regret not riding with a local, as there are many hidden sneaky stashes that I probably missed out on. Next Time.

There is a large beginner area here too, that’s really fun for the kiddos.

After skiing, enjoy a cold Kokanee at the Griz Bar inside the day lodge, where live bands play for a lively crowd.

If you’re an American, which I am, Fernie is easily accessible by a short 40-minute drive up highway 93 from Eureka Montana. Crossing the border into Canada requires a passport, but you no longer need to show a covid vaccination card.

Coming back to the US is a breeze, and if you’re still in the mood for some more apres, stop into Stahl Peak Distillery and grab yourself a caramel apple pie whiskey. It’s located just 5 miles past the border crossing (US side.)
