Deer Valley Resort, Utah, will be closing for the season this Sunday, March 29, resort officials announced Thursday, three weeks sooner than the resort’s original April 19 closing date.

The announcement follows a week of record-breaking warm temperatures. Resort management cited sustained temperatures reaching into the 70s and nearly two weeks without a nighttime freeze as the conditions that made continued operations untenable.

“With sustained warm temperatures reaching into the seventies and nearly two weeks without a freeze, we’ve run out of options. We will close the 2025-26 ski season this weekend,” Todd Bennett, Deer Valley Resort President and Chief Operating Officer, said.

Deer Valley Resort, Utah’s latest ski area, suffered from the warm winter of 2025-26. The season was challenging from the start, with the resort postponing its November opening due to insufficient snowmaking caused by unusually warm temperatures. It finally opened on December 6.

Despite those challenges, the season coincided with the largest expansion in Deer Valley’s 45-year history. The resort opened and operated nearly 100 new runs and eight new lifts while navigating the lowest snowfall in Utah history, according to Bennett. “We have accomplished something that’s never been done before in the history of skiing,” he said.

Historical closing dates at Deer Valley have consistently fallen in mid- to late April. The resort closed on April 20 in 2025 and on April 21 in 2024, a season in which it extended operations for only the second time in its history due to abundant snowfall. With the exception of March 15, 2020, due to COVID, a March 29 closing date might be the earliest in the resort’s recorded history.

All Deer Valley season passes will be valid Saturday and Sunday, March 28 and 29, including Mid-week, Utah Limited, and Select Passes. Season pass holders will receive a complimentary lunch at Snow Park Lodge or Silver Lake Lodge, along with a voucher valid for an entrée, beverage, and Deer Valley cookie.

“We’re looking forward to one last stretch of sunny spring skiing,” Bennett said. “Whether you’re visiting from out of town or part of the local community, we hope you’ll join us for one run.”

The resort has seen 144″ of snow all season, less than half its average, and has a 33″ base, 46% of average for this time of year.
