Record Winds Over 100MPH Close Cerro Catedral, Bariloche, Argentina

Just after 1 pm, yesterday (Wednesday 22nd August), a record wind of over 100 mph was recorded at Cerro Catedral, Bariloche, Argentina. The measurement was taken by the meteorological station installed in tower 11, on the quadruple chairlift in Punta Nevada.

The storm began in the morning, with gusts of wind exceeding 60-mph at 9.30 and continued to worsen until the winds reached maximum speeds of over 100 mph in the afternoon.

The storm had been expected and a meteorological alert issued by the National Meteorological Service meant that operations at the resort were suspended.
