Beneath the surface of Lake Tahoe, long known for its famed clarity and brilliant blue waters, thousands of pounds of trash are breaking apart and impacting the lake’s aquatic habitats. Beginning this Friday, May 14, an extraordinary effort to remove trash around all 72-miles of Lake Tahoe with a SCUBA dive team of professionals and volunteers will begin.

Spearheaded by the non-profit Clean Up The Lake, the effort was funded by contributions raised by the Tahoe Fund from more than 135 businesses and people who donated to the cause. The fundraising campaign launched with an initial $100,000 match offered by Tahoe Blue Vodka followed by a $25,000 donation from Vail Resorts along with support from the Nevada Division of State Lands Lake Tahoe License Plate program and other grant-giving foundations, including Tahoe Mountain Resorts Foundation, Tahoe Truckee Community Foundation & American Century Championship.
