Roof Avalanche Kills Mother & Son At Kirkwood Mountain Resort, CA On Sunday

According to Alpine County Sheriff’s Office, a mother and her son were killed by a roof avalanche at Kirkwood Mountain Resort, CA on Sunday. At 6:40pm on Sunday evening, authorities received a report of two missing individuals at the resort. They were 50-year-old Olga Perkovic and her 7-year-old son, Aaron Goodstein. Their last known whereabouts was Chair 7 around 4:00pm that afternoon.

At about 9:00pm that night, a neighbor of the missing individuals noticed a pair of ski gloves in the snow beside their condominium. The neighbor quickly realized that Olga and Aaron were buried beneath the snow. They were found unconscious, 3 feet below the snow and were quickly extracted by rescuers. They were both airlifted to the hospital, but both of them died from their injuries.

The investigation determined that the pair took an alternate route to their condominium that took them through a wooded area. When they reached the condo complex, the snow that was on the roof let loose and buried them. Olga was on a ski vacation at the resort with her three children and mother.
