More than 100 people from various agencies have joined the search for a trail runner missing since Saturday in the hills of Pleasanton Ridge Regional Park, CA.

Philip Kreycik, 37, of Berkeley, CA, set out on Saturday morning for a planned one hour run. The keen runner often runs on the trails at Moller Ranch Staging Area for up to 12-miles.

When he hadn’t returned by the afternoon, his wife raised the alarm.

The area is rocky with steep ravines and narrow paths. Police are concerned he may have been injured or fallen due to the triple-digit-temperatures on Saturday.

Police and professional search and rescue teams descended into ravines Monday, after combing through the entire park Sunday. An airplane and drones were used during the initial phases of the search and on Monday a helicopter and foot patrols were searching the rugged terrain. They were joined by an army of volunteers organized by a trail running group on Facebook.

“Athletes who run, do trail runs, we’re kind of a big family, so we have to protect each other.”

– Keven Hempel, a volunteer who did not personally know Kreycik

Kreycik’s car was still at the trailhead with his phone and ID. Police accessed his phone which contained the route he intended to run.

Anybody with information about Kreycik’s location is asked to contact the Pleasanton Police Department at (925) 931-5100.
