Mikaela Shiffrin lost to Slovakian Petra Vlhova for the second straight World Cup slalom race, at Flachau in Austria yesterday. It is the first time in over five years that Shiffrin has failed to win in successive slalom races

Shiffrin finished third overall, 0.43-seconds slower than first placed Vlhova. Sweden’s Anna Swenn-Larsson was second, by only 0.10-seconds.

Vlhova claimed her seventh World Cup slalom win and 12th on the circuit in total to move second in the overall standings behind defending champion Shiffrin, who had an error-strewn second run in Austria. Shiffrin has yet to win a race in 2020.

Shiffrin, bidding for a fourth straight big crystal globe, leads Vlhova in the overall World Cup standings by 273 points and the slalom standings by 80 points.
