Squaw Valley had announced that they’d open Shirley Lake today, but to everyone’s shock and awe, they opened Siberia as well. Let us qualify that. They opened the hike to Siberia. The chair never moved. This system made it pretty darned fun, though. The hike was refreshing and the snow was perfect. Recrystallized powder rewarded all the hikers of Siberia today.
The Kangroo Kicker was kickin’. There was enough lip to do what ever you wanted and the landing was just soft enough to make it fun.
Shirley Lake was completely ungroomed. The skiing was good and powdery in Shirley but hidden rocks were prevalent. After a few runs, it freaked us out.
Squaw Creek and Red Dog are skiing the same as they have all week: scratchy, icy, and fast.
Overall, it was a great day and tomorrow should be fun as well. It was neat to ski some pow and do some jumps today.
