Sierra-at-Tahoe’s 79th season is officially coming to a close. According to a recent announcement posted to the resort’s official Instagram account, the final day of operations will be this Sunday, March 22.

In the social media update, the resort cited unseasonable weather as the primary factor driving the decision. Management noted that the spring sun has been overly enthusiastic, bringing near-record high temperatures to the area. Paired with an absence of new snow in the forecast, officials determined it was time to conclude the season.

“We are currently seeing near record temperatures and the snow is melting fast. Our team is doing an excellent job keeping everything alive but sometimes Mother Nature just wins. ” – Brian Hickman, Director of Operations at Sierra-at-Tahoe

Despite the upcoming closure, Sierra-at-Tahoe intends to keep several lifts spinning for the final weekend. The Instagram post outlined plans to operate the Grandview Express, Nob Hill, and Easy Rider Express, provided that conditions permit. Those looking for beginner terrain will be limited to the Easy Rider area. Because the operational footprint remains subject to change based on conditions, the resort advises visitors to consult its daily snow report for the most up-to-date information regarding available lifts and terrain.

To send off the season, the resort is inviting guests to celebrate this Saturday and Sunday. The weekend festivities will feature snow beach volleyball and daily DJ après sessions, offering a stylish farewell and a thank you to what the resort fondly called its “Sierra Fam.”
