Last week, the Alps got a bit of early season snow.  This week, they’ll get a decent dousing of new snow.  Snow is forecasted from Monday September 16th until Friday, September 21st in the Alps with some spots getting up to 30cms (1ft).

The jetstream will come form the Northwest brining colder air on Monday dropping snow levels to 1500m (4,900ft).  Significant snow will fall throughout next week with higher elevations receiving up to 30cm (1ft).

The named stormed Roland will be the reason for the wintery blast.  Temperatures will be well below average for this snow event.

Storm ‘Roland’ forecasted location for Monday, September 16th, 2013.  Just about to plow into the Alps and drop some early season snow.

This early season snow is likely a touch too early to be considered base snow for the ski season, but it’ll definitely be enough to get European skiers and riders in the mood.
