According to RGJ, Dennis Baltimore, a 35-year-old ski instructor, was killed over the weekend at Northstar Resort, CA after he hit rocks and crashed into a creek near the Village Run slope. When the accident occurred, Dennis and his colleagues were participating in a ski instructor certification class. He was skiing down a beginner slope at the resort when a snowboarded veered in front of him and cut him off. To avoid a collision, Dennis took a quick left and went off the run.

It was confirmed that the snowboarder hit a patch of ice on the mountain, lost control, and nearly hit Dennis. Northstar Ski Patrol provided emergency care, but he was pronounced dead on the scene by the Northstar Fire Department, according to resort officials. The Placer County Sheriff’s Office is awaiting  autopsy results to determine the cause of death, but Jillian Torrez, Dennis’ girlfriend, said that he died of spinal and head injuries.

“Northstar California Resort, Northstar Ski Patrol and the entire Vail Resorts family extend our deepest sympathy and support to our employee’s family and friends; we are all devastated by the loss of this member of our team,” Nadia Guerriero, vice president and general manager for the resort, said in an emailed statement Monday.

Dennis Baltimore moved to the Kings Beach, CA area about five years ago and became a ski instructor at Northstar. Torrez said she had just finished Christmas shopping and was loading gifts and groceries into her car when she received a call from Northstar. Dennis was a genuine guy and gave back through teaching people how to ski. The funeral costs are substantial, so if you are willing and able to donate, please do so below.

““He wanted to give it a try, and he picked it up really quickly,” stated Torrez, Dennis’ girlfriend.
