The 2025–26 ski season in North America is drawing to a close, though not before delivering one of its most lopsided finales on record. While resorts across the American West shut down weeks ahead of schedule amid a historic low-snowpack season, the East posted one of its strongest late-season performances in years and the Canadian Rockies delivered a winter so deep it extended well into summer. Here is every ski resort still open, or opening this coming weekend, across the continent.
The season has produced wild swings. Rocky Mountain ski areas closed in March. Snowmaking operations ran in the Mid-Atlantic in April. And then, after an all-but-dormant winter out West, feet of snow arrived in the Sierra after most California resorts had already called it quits.
In Colorado, the season was the worst ever recorded, with resorts opening less than half their usual terrain for much of the winter. In Utah, the snowpack peaked at 75% of average in late February before collapsing to just 15% of median by late March.
Arapahoe Basin, Colorado’s most reliably late-closing resort, shut its lifts yesterday after extending its season to May 17, its earliest close in over a decade, despite a miracle run of late-season snowfall that delivered more snow in May than the mountain saw in either March or April.
Canada was a different story entirely. At Banff Sunshine Village, the upper mountain base sat at eight feet deep heading into late April, and a recent storm took them past 10 meters of snow for the season.

Ski Resorts Still Open in Canada
British Columbia
Whistler Blackcomb officially wrapped up operations on Whistler Mountain on April 19, but Blackcomb kept the season going, and will close today, May 18. Nine chairlifts are running with access to 20 open trails. The mountain recorded 317 inches of snowfall this season and has a base depth of 39 inches heading into its final day.
Alberta
At Lake Louise, the season wrapped up on May 3. Banff Sunshine Village ran daily operations through May 18, its scheduled closing day, capping one of the most remarkable seasons in the resort’s history.
On May 4, Sunshine Village announced plans to reopen for summer skiing from June 20 through July 5, 2026, citing record snowfall. The Slush Cup event closes out spring operations before the resort resets for summer. Over 10 meters, approximately 394 inches, of snowfall accumulated this season, well above the resort’s annual average of around 600 centimeters (236 inches). That total would make it the snowiest season in more than a decade, and could position Sunshine Village as the last open ski resort in North America.
Quebec
Most Quebec resorts wrapped up in late April, but Sommet Saint-Sauveur continued operating on weekends, and will be open for one last day today; May 18.

Ski Resorts Still Open in the United States
California
Mammoth Mountain currently has 70 trails and seven lifts open, operating from 7:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. daily and the Unbound Express serving park laps from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Chairs 5 and 10 reopen on weekends. After receiving just one inch of snow in March, April delivered four feet. Mammoth is targeting May 31, with extensions possible depending on conditions.
Palisades Tahoe received 84 inches of snow in April, allowing the resort to extend its season. The resort is running four lifts from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. daily with all access from the base via the Funitel, serving 12 open trails, through May 24. Lift operations are gradually consolidating as the season winds down.
Oregon
Timberline Lodge remains open with two lifts and will continue operating as long as conditions allow, typically well into summer. The resort’s scheduled target date is July 19. Timberline is one of the few ski areas in North America with a near-permanent upper snowfield, and it hosts U.S. ski team training camps through the spring and summer months.

Ski Resorts Still Open in the Eastern US

The resort is targeting the trifecta of downhill mountain biking, golf, and skiing over Memorial Day Weekend. No firm closing date has been set. Historically, Killington runs deep into May and sometimes into June.
Jay Peak closed yesterday, May 17, after a 410-inch season. The final weekend brought advanced terrain accessed via the Jet lift, with lift tickets priced at $55.

Black Mountain reopened Saturday, May 16, for a 1970s-themed closing party with four trails open on two lifts and conditions described as soft and smooth. The resort closed May 17.
