A male skier in his 60s is missing after being caught in an avalanche this morning in the Jackpot Chutes at Mt. Rose ski resort in Lake Tahoe, NV.
The skier reportedly hiked up Mt. Rose ski resort to ski the Jackpot Chutes. The Jackpot Chutes area were closed at the time.
The missing skier was with another 60 year old male skier at the time of the avalanche.
It’s unknown if these skiers had avalanche equipment or education.
Unfortunately, the man in the avalanche is most likely deceased.
Rescuers called off the search for the missing man at 2:15pm today due to avalanche danger. They will resume their search at first light tomorrow.
Mt. Rose ski resort received 18-32″ of snow in the past 24 hours.
